Another year has raced by, and here we are bidding farewell to another batch of Textile, Fashion and Accessory design (TFA) graduates. This group will be remembered as those who worked under the most challenging circumstances and stressful times of Covid-19. Yet, they worked hard through their commitment and struggled under the guiding philosophy that we encourage at SVAD- where we look to create a dialogue between the domains of design and art. The dynamics of the group change each year but the student teacher bond remains special as always. Each student has a personal narrative to share and I hope that this group of 35 TFA students receive admiration for the hard work and dedication they have shown. Working tirelessly, with a commitment to ride together as a student-faculty team, we saw our fair share of difficult moments but ultimately the journey has been rewarding, especially witnessing raw ideas develop into conclusive philosophical works.
The works produced this year have to do with the times these students are working in, and how they contextualize their position in society. TFA students have produced thematic works using materials such as unconventional fibres, materials, concrete, gemstones, metals and the work they have produced generates ideas, is thought provoking, challenging and intriguing in both form and content. The narratives in each body of work make us stop and think, construct and re-construct, contemplate on the highs and lows and beyond. I wish and I pray that these graduates achieve excellence now and in the future.
